One of the best things about fall is all of the unique, cool weather activities you get to participate in. In particular, “U-Pick” farms are very popular, bringing together family and friends for a fun afternoon in scenic farmland and natural fall foliage. There are quite a few places near Bayside where you can enjoy a day in the orchard or field with your family and we wanted to highlight three of the best.

Magee Farms (1.2 miles from Bayside) has been open since 1865 and offers two different U-Pick locations, the closest of which is in Selbyville. At these two locations, you can visit their large pumpkin patch and get your own pumpkin to carve into a jack o’lantern or cook into delicious treats! They also have firewood to keep you warm throughout the winter. Come springtime, you can also pick beautiful strawberries and various other seasonal fruits!

T.S. Smith & Sons in Bridgeville, De (36 miles from Bayside) has been open since 1907, making it the oldest apple orchard in operation in Delaware. This fourth generation apple orchard offers 12 different varieties of apples throughout the year as well as pumpkins, gourds, broccoli, apple cider and much more throughout the fall. You can visit this orchard any weekend in September or October to pick fresh apples!

Don’s Tree Farm in Greenwood, DE (42 miles from Bayside) grows 15 different varieties of pumpkins and a wide variety of decorative gourds that you can pick yourself. There’s also a straw path maze for children and tractor hay rides! If you’re feeling ambitious, you can visit their White Pine field and tag the perfect Christmas tree. It’s never too early to start thinking about it!

These are just a few of the fabulous U-Pick farms that you’ll find in Sussex County, home of the Bayside community. You can find other farms within the county from PickYourOwn.org.
