Winter Delmarva Birding Weekend

Our birding experts, Jim Rapp and Dave Wilson, are pleased to share with us Winter Delmarva Birding Weekend! Registration is open for the 2019 Winter DBW!

The 4th annual Winter Delmarva Birding Weekend will be held January 25 – 27, 2019. We will enjoy great looks at the waterfowl, seabirds, shorebirds, raptors — and seals! — that are on full display in the mid-Atlantic during the winter months. 108 species were tallied during the 2018 Winter DBW, and highlight species included Snowy Owl, Great Cormorant, Purple Sandpiper, Snow Bunting, Common Merganser, Red-necked Grebe, and 27 species of waterfowl.

Seminar Overview

This seminar, developed by Bayside resident Mark Camillo was originally created and taught as a workshop for disabled veterans during national events hosted by the Department of Veterans Affairs. Mark, a retired Secret Service Agent, conducted this workshop for ten years at VA events, and later adapted it for other populations who can benefit from this approach which is focused on recognizing danger, minimizing the risks and avoiding confrontation. Participants will also see examples of how to survive confrontations when given no other option.  Protecting ones self from harm by avoiding harmful situations is a theme that runs throughout this seminar.

About Mark Camillo

Mark Camillo retired after serving 21 years as a Special Agent in the US Secret Service. During his career, Mark served as the Chief Control Tactics Instructor at the Secret Service National Training Center. During that time at the training center, Mark developed the “Street Survival Awareness” workshop that is the basis for the personal safety seminar. Mark holds a 7th degree black belt in Korean Karate, and is a certified G.R.A.P.P.L.E. instructor from the Gracie Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy. Mark lives with his wife SaraJane at the Point in Bayside.

Although this class is offered free of charge, preregistration is required.
