Lewes continues to bear the scars of the War of 1812. On April 6th and 7th, 1813, the war came to Lewes’ shores as the town would endure a bombardment by a British Naval Fleet. Breaking Britannia’s Grasp provides a revised interpretation of the bombardment. This exhibit, opening in the fall of 2020, will further enhance the interpretation of this conflict, providing a human element, focusing on the sailors that crewed the blockading fleet, and the people that defended Lewistown. This presentation will present some of the local artifacts that will be on display to the public before the exhibit even opens.
