Seminar on Personal Safety; Ways to minimize risks and avoid confrontations by maintaining an awareness of the environment around you.
Developed by Bayside resident Mark Camillo, this seminar was originally created and taught as a workshop for disabled veterans during national events hosted by the Department of Veterans Affairs. Mark, a retired Secret Service Agent conducted this workshop for ten years at VA events, and later adapted it for other populations who can benefit from this approach which is focused on recognizing danger, minimizing the risks and avoiding confrontation. Participants will also see examples of how to survive confrontations when given no other option. Protecting ones self from harm by avoiding harmful situations is a theme that runs throughout this seminar.
This well-attended personal safety seminar in 2019 will return this year to the Bayside Institute with an added element to help keep our community residents safe. Community Engagement Officer Corporal Billy Bant from the Delaware State Police will join Instructor Mark Camillo in the seminar to discuss recent crime incidents and patterns in our area. Be sure to attend the Jan 25th seminar for your annual personal safety checkup. Don’t allow yourself to become a victim!
Mark Camillo retired after serving 21 years as a Special Agent in the US Secret Service. During his career, Mark served as the Chief Control Tactics Instructor at the Secret Service National Training Center. During that time at the training center, Mark developed the “Street Survival Awareness” workshop that is the basis for the personal safety seminar. Mark holds a 7th degree black belt in Korean Karate, and is a certified G.R.A.P.P.L.E. instructor from the Gracie Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy.
