The Carl M. Freeman Companies announced on January 17, 2011 that they have donated a parcel of land at The Village at Bear Trap Dunes for the town to build a Public Works building. The half acre parcel, located adjacent to the Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club’s driving range, will be the site of a 3,500 square foot Public Works building which will house a shop area and truck bays, offices for personnel, equipment and materials.

“The genesis of this wonderful gift was a simple conversation I had with Michelle Freeman, requesting an acre of land for town use,” said Gordon Wood, Sr., Mayor of Ocean View. Noting that Freeman will be attending a future council meeting – “We will thank her personally when her schedule permits,” he said. “Meanwhile, join me in a standing ‘thank you’ and accolade to Mrs. Freeman for this wonderful gift to our town”, Mayor Wood, went on to say.

The 40 year ground lease, at $1 per year, is similar to the agreement reached in 2005, when the Carl M. Freeman Companies made a land donation for the new Ocean View Police station, located on Central Avenue. “We were happy that we are able to help the town of Ocean View”, said Doug Brown, Vice President for the Carl M. Freeman Companies. “This continues our long tradition of giving back to the communities where our customers and employees call home”, Brown continued.

The Carl M. Freeman Companies were founded by Carl M. Freeman in 1947 and later led by Mr. Freeman’s son, Joshua M. Freeman from the early 1990s through 2006. The Freeman Companies are real estate developers, focused on commercial and community development and redevelopment in the mid-Atlantic region. Visit www.freemancompanies.com for more information.
