When you head to the beach, what are the things that you throw into your beach bag? A towel for sure. Maybe a snack. Your personal belongings. And maybe a book. That last one might be the most important one. It’s the perfect accessory to a day at the beach. You can relax on your towel or beach chair and spend some good quality time getting lost in a story while the waves crash to shore in front of you. This summer, there is an abundance of amazing books to read and we wanted to highlight a few of them you can take with you to the coast, whether it’s in Fenwick Island or for a leisurely day by The Point.

  • The Memory Painter by Gwendolyn Womack is the story of a famous artist and a neuroscientist what realize they share the same dream. The answers trace back to a lab explosion…and a crime that has remained unsolved for decades. This debut novel is a page-turner full of romance and ancient mysteries.
  • Love May Fail is the latest book from Matthew Quick, author of The Silver Linings Playbook. It’s about a young woman who is brought together with her former high school English teacher after separate circumstances throw their lives asunder. They help each other heal along with an eclectic cast of characters.
  • A Spool of Blue Thread, the reported last novel to be written by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Anne Tyler, tells the story of three generations of the Whitshank family and their home in Baltimore. It perfectly captures the beauty, wonder and emotion that everyone experiences in their daily lives.
  • A Fine Romance is the memoir of actress and best-selling memoirist Candice Bergen. She describes her emotional state after the birth of her child and a brutally honest portrayal of the death of her first husband to cancer and how she managed to find love again.

These are just a few of the options available for you to read this summer. Don’t forget to bring a book with you the next time you go lay out at the beach!
