Hollee Gritz

How often do you take the time to take a few moments out of your day to stop and sit still and observe being in the moment?  To simply observe what it is like being YOU?  In today’s busy lifestyle most of us are either running from one activity to the next, checking our phones, thinking about what we did yesterday or what we have to do tomorrow. We are never truly fully living life for what it is, as we let each moment pass us by unnoticed. Mindfulness meditation is a practice that allows one to begin to get in touch with themselves in the present moment.  It is proven to reduces stress, anxiety and to allow people to live fuller lives.

And, it is not one-size-fits all. During this session, we will discuss an overview of the things you can do for yourself, focusing on various dimensions of self-care such as movement, exercise and rest, healthy eating, the mind-body connection (i.e. stress management) and relationships and communication. When thinking about your health and well-being, it is essential to think about who else is on your team to help you live well. So, it is a combination of factors – self-care, practitioners and people – that support us in living well. The latest science reveals that we are not victims of unchangeable genes, nor should we buy into a scary prognosis. The fact is we have more control over our health and life than we have been taught to believe. This film will empower you with a new understanding of the miraculous nature of the human body and the extraordinary healer within us all. “Heal” not only taps into the brilliant minds of leading scientists and spiritual teachers, but follows three people on actual high stakes healing journeys. Healing can be extremely complex and deeply personal, but it can also happen spontaneously in a moment. Through these inspiring and emotional stories we find out what works, what doesn’t, and why.

Natural Approaches to Pain Relief
Thursday, June 21st | 4:00PM to 5:15PM | Free
Under the Wellness Tent
Dr. Uday Jani, Internal Medicine, Shore View Personalized Medical Care

The better answer, according to Dr. Jani, resides in foods, herbs and supplements, many of which have proven extraordinarily effective for managing chronic inflammation and pain.

“There are numerous natural ways, tested for efficacy, to alleviate painful symptoms,” says Dr. Jani. “For instance, a gluten-free diet has been shown to relieve pain from endometriosis, omega-3 fatty acid supplements are used to decrease joint pain caused by inflammatory bowel disease, and herbs like cayenne cream and white willow bark ease lower back pain. The Chinese herb corydalis has extremely potent healing powers and is successfully used to treat cancer pain, but because it does not affect morphine receptors, is not addictive like opioids.”

Also key to helping patients manage pain is what Dr. Jani terms “a healing encounter” with their clinician, characterized by four essential components: an emotionally charged relationship with a helping person; a healing setting; an explanation for the patient’s symptoms; and a continuing ritual, procedure or plan that involves active participation of both parties and the belief that these will restore the person to a state of health.

“Pain may be inevitable, but there is a way to eliminate the suffering that accompanies it,” asserts Dr. Jani. “The power of a healing encounter springs from a willingness to be fully present and listen to the patient’s story. Only then can we identify the underlying cause of the pain and start the patient on the journey to long term healing.”

Breath: The Link Between Mind and Body
Saturday, June 23rd | 11:00AM to 12:15PM | $20
Multipurpose Room, The Health & Aquatic Club
Kim Blanch, RN, LMT, AYP

Breath is essential to life. In our lifetime, it is the very first thing and the very last thing we do. In between those moments, we take about half a billion breaths. Pranayama is the 4th limb of the 8 limbs of yoga philosophy. The word pranayama is derived from two Sanskrit words: prana (life force) and yama (control). We can train ourselves to breathe in a way that has a positive impact on our health. In this workshop, we’ll learn how the mind, body, and breath are intimately connected and how they can influence each other. Our breathing is affected by our thoughts, and our thoughts and physiology can be affected by our breath. By controlling the breath, we can influence every aspect of our lives. Therefore, learning to breathe with awareness can become a valuable tool to restore and maintain balance in the mind and body.

Spiritual Guidance and the Boundless Possibilities It Creates
Saturday, June 23rd | 1:00PM to 3:00PM | $25
Multipurpose Room, The Health & Aquatic Club
Rev. Donna McEntee

Do we really have help available to us for even the simple questions in life? Seeking guidance for ourselves is an automatic reflex we do every day.  We seek our own mind’s guidance when we ask “Should I do this first or that? Should I go here or there?”  What if our choices were made through spiritual guidance?   According to Rev. Donna McEntee the answers we seek, even the small and mundane, when we are divinely attuned to asking for help from our angels and loved ones in spirit, are specifically designed to help us live our best life.  And so imagine now the possibilities to receiving guidance for the really big questions that arise in life.   Rev. Donna believes that by asking our Angels, Spirits and Guides (Oh My!) for their help in all areas of our lives we become divinely attuned to the boundless possibilities their spiritual guidance provides.  During this workshop Intuitive Spiritual Counselor and Medium Rev. Donna McEntee will teach you easy and practical ways to listen to and decipher the divine messages we all receive on a daily basis.  There is peace and comfort those in spirit and our angels wish to communicate through the amazing support they offer.  By listening to our own Divine Spiritual Guidance and the messages from spirit, she believes, we can learn to navigate our way to a life filled with joy, hope and happiness.

Journaling for Wellness
Saturday, June 23rd | 3:45PM to 5:15PM | $20
Multipurpose Room, The Health & Aquatic Club
Raylen Williams, Wellness Coach, RYT 200

” ‘I’m not creative.’ ‘I don’t have time to journal.’ Sound familiar? I thought the same thing!  I hated any kind of “creative writing” because I used to think that I was not creative.  However, several years during my yoga teacher training certification, we were encouraged to start a journal to document our process.

I discovered that journaling gave me an opportunity to pause, realized that the adopted script “I’m not creative” was an illusion, and from allowing space that I was able to re-connect with Truth: the creative energy that flows within, surrounds all, and that we are. I invite you to do just that. Pause…” –  Instructor Raylen Williams

What’s happening now? What do you notice when you give yourself permission to pause? In your body? In your mind?
How does this awareness inform you of where you are in life this moment?

Whether you are seeking change, authenticity, clarity, guidance, healing, or just curious, my intention is to hold space for you to experience how Self-inquiry through journaling can support and EMPOWER you by having a deeper connection with your creative flow and intuition.

Please join me for an interactive, fun, embodied journey through journaling as we explore:

  • Living with intention and attention
  • Healing through feeling
  • Recovery through Self-Discovery

What to bring:

  • Your journal/writing utensils (there will be journals and writing utensils available)
  • Any props you feel that would make you feel at ease
  • Curiosity
  • Open heart, mind, soul
  • A gentle smile (not required)
