March is an exciting time to be a member of the Bayside Institute! We have three Bayside members this month leading classes and sharing their knowledge, creativity and skill sets. Don’t miss out on Anne Wooleyhand’s class tomorrow with her special guest Rico, a retired mine detection dog, responsible for saving lives and positively impacting the socio-economic growth of countries around the world.
Please note, due to extensive time it takes to prepare up front for each class with instructors and materials, Bayside Institute adheres to a cancellation policy. We understand that life happens, so that’s why we allow you to cancel up to 24 hours before the class. Any cancellation less than 24 hours, will not receive a refund. Some classes require materials to be ordered and prepared well in advance of the 24 hours, and might have a different cancellation timeline, which will be noted in the class description.
Meet Mine Detection Dog Rico with the Marshall Legacy Institute – Anne Wooleyhand is the Educational Programs Director for The Marshall Legacy Institute – a non-profit organization committed to addressing the humanitarian impact of landmines around the world. As part of her job, she travels to communities, schools and organizations with a retired mine detection dog, MDD Rico. Rico, a Belgian Malinois, and his handler were credited with contributing to the clearance of 600,000 square meters of land in Bosnia-Herzegovina. They not only saved lives but also positively impacted the socio-economic growth of the country. Following a presentation about the post-conflict impact of landmines, Anne and Rico will conduct a simulated demonstration showing Rico&rs quo;s “sniffing skills” and welcome questions from the group.
Meditation and Gentle Movement – Offered every Monday this month! Drop in or join all of the 8-week classes. Wind down your day with Sangha: a meditation incorporated with gentle movement. The word sangha is a Pali word most commonly translated as community or association. Traditionally (in the Pali Canon), the word sangha refers to the association of monks and nuns. In modern traditions, the word sangha includes laypeople. Above all, our sangha can be seen simply as a community of individuals who are on a path…And aren’t we all? Too often we feel isolated from others. The sangha offers support and by participating we may offer support, kindness and connection to those around us. It may enable us to grow in ways that contribute to a healthy way of living.
