Carl M. Freeman Companies Presents $115,000 Check to Sussex County Land Trust
SELBYVILLE, DE – October 22, 2006 – Carl M. Freeman Companies presented the Sussex County Land Trust with a $115,000 check today. The presentation took place during the 3rd Annual Rocktober Fishing Tournament & Festival awards ceremony at the Indian River Marina.
The check is part of Carl M. Freeman Companies' pledge to donate $500 to the non-profit conservation organization for every home that settles at its waterfront resort golf community of Bayside. The recent $115,000 donation represents 230 Bayside settlements. Approximately 1,640 homes are slated to be built at Bayside.
“Our ongoing commitment to Sussex County Land Trust is very important to us,” Tom Halverstadt, senior vice president of Carl M. Freeman Communities said. “We must all work together to protect and preserve the beautiful environment that we've been blessed with in and around this county.” Sussex County Land Trust will use the donated funds for open space preservation.
Carl M. Freeman Companies began its association with the non-profit organization in 2004 when it set aside 287 acres of woods and wetlands in the Bayside community for a conservation easement. The company plans to construct an educational nature center within the community that will be open to residents and visitors.
"We are grateful to Carl M. Freeman Companies for supporting our preservation efforts," said Wendy O. Baker, president and CEO of Sussex County Land Trust. “Their pledge to join our organization and partner with others to continue our important work pushes us forward as a viable, integral part of our community, our county and part of an overall national effort.”
Bayside, located off Route 54 just west of Fenwick Island, Delaware, offers homeowners many choices - choice of homestyles, choice of design features and choice of recreation. In addition to its Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course and Sun Ridge Tennis and Recreation Center, Bayside recently broke ground on a 52,000 sq. foot Harris Teeter supermarket. The community also plans to have an inn and spa, restaurant and movie theater.
