Third Annual Breast Cancer Walk at Bayside
Sunday, October 18

SELBYVILLE, DE. September 28, 2009 – Curves of Selbyville, PNC Bank and the Carl M. Freeman Foundation are joining forces to sponsor the third annual Heels for Hope Breast Cancer Walk at Bayside on Sunday, October 18 at 8:30 AM to benefit Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, Inc. (DBCC).

Registration for the event is $15 and will take place at the PNC Bank parking lot of the Bayside Marketplace located at the intersection of Route 54 and Route 20, 31231 Americana Parkway Selbyville, DE from 7:30 to 8:15 AM. Participants have the choice of a 2.5km or a 5km walk that winds throughout the Bayside community. In addition to the walk, there will be a bake sale and a raffle.

Brenda Granz, owner of Curves of Selbyville and a 20-year breast cancer survivor, is hoping to top last year’s fundraising efforts with this year’s event. “Our goal this year is to raise both money and awareness for DBCC,” she said. “We had a great turnout last year despite a rainy day, so we are looking forward to better weather this year and even more walkers.”

Patti Grimes, vice president of outreach for the Carl M. Freeman Foundation, echoed Granz, saying the walk is a great way to bring the community together and collectively work together to find a cure for breast cancer. “We’ve been fortunate to have the support of several businesses that have already come on board as sponsors for our event. It’s our hope that everyone will bring their family and friends to share in some fun and fresh air while raising money for DBCC,” said Grimes.

Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and the only organization in Delaware solely committed to breast health issues. All of the funds raised from the Heels for Hope walk on October 18 will remain in the state of Delaware to assist DBCC in its mission to provide outreach, education and support services in order to facilitate early detection and treatment of breast cancer.

Susan DiMondi, a breast cancer survivor and staff member of the DBCC is delighted to partner with Sussex County organizations. “The DBCC dedicates 100% of its resources to supporting women and men in Delaware with programs for early detection and services for those newly diagnosed with breast cancer. We provide knowledge and hope to women and their families through this difficult journey. Having local organizations and residents supporting our efforts will make a difference for many people right here in Sussex County. We are grateful to everyone who comes out to walk for the cause, and to Freeman, PNC and Curves for hosting the event.”

Walkers may pre-register for the Heels for Hope walk by contacting Brenda Granz at Curves of Selbyville, 302-436-5833 or DBCC at 302.644.6844. To learn more about Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition’s programs and services, visit www.debreastcancer.org.
